An exchange-traded fund is an investment fund which is being traded on stock exchanges, much like a regular stock. ETFs typically hold assets such as bonds, commodities, currencies or stocks, and track indices, or a handful of assets, much like an index fund.

Some investors consider ETFs to be more attractive than the common stock because of low costs and higher liquidity, on top of it's stock-like nature.
